I've made lasting friendships while volunteering with Rotary International, and learned more about the reality of the American life. I was a Secretary and one of the most active volunteers in the Rotary Club of New Orleans Riverbend, that my husband chartered as a President. When we moved to Kentucky, I published weekly newsletters and maintained the website of Richmond Rotary Club. With our move to the Phoenix Area, I wanted to change my lifestyle because I had a small child, who you cannot bring to Rotary meetings. I am still a Rotarian, but with no extra duties, and we joined the YMCA to find a pool for the child and escape from the summer heat. This charitable organization was a great fit for my lifestyle with a child, and in a modern scripted and regulated lifestyle, still allows people to be different and feel included.

My mother was a soprano, who performed many leading parts in European, Russian and Ukrainian operas. She worked at Kharkiv Opera Theater most of her live, and I got to travel with her every summer on tours to different cities of the former Soviet Union. She left only a couple of recordings, as her best days pre-dated digital formats, and none of the old tape recordings were saved. But she left a couple of dozen paintings, and many drawings.
